The Cranswick Food Factory Project
As a leading UK food producer and supplier of premium products, Cranswick has partnered with some of the biggest global brands. Establishing in 1975 by a small group of farmers who were inspired to produce the ultimate taste of Britain, the team moved to food production in the 1980s.
Rapide was thrilled to be contacted by Cranswick to get involved in their latest factory renovation. They had built a new factory extension which would accommodate a production area for Marks & Spencers. As Cranswick was starting the construction process from scratch, they enlisted the support of Rapide to install resin flooring to the extension.

The Proposal
Due to the nature of the new production area, there were many requirements that the new flooring needed to meet. Most importantly, the system would need to be able to withstand different spillages, including water, oil, grease and chemicals. It also needed to maximise durability and longevity so that if Cranswick were to reconfigure the factory layout in the future, the flooring could easily be adjusted. They wanted to avoid any need to replace the flooring in the years to come.
2.
The Planning
As mentioned above, the new Cranswick extension was being built from scratch, which means that it was vital that Rapide could work alongside various different sub-contractors. During the flooring installation process, walls, ceilings and appliances would also all be being fitted. Rapide would need to work fast to not only meet strict deadlines but also ensure that they did not disturb the schedule of fellow sub-contractors.
3.
The Delivery
When delivering the project, Rapide started by laying a concrete floor, which would create a foundation for the resin. Next, the base was meticulously prepared with a primer, which would bond with concrete and avoid any layers forming between the flooring system. In avoiding layering, the flooring creates a toughened surface, which can withstand substantial impact without damage. Once cured, both the body and seal coat could then be installed.

The Closing
The complete the project, Rapide added a non-slip coating to the resin. This would accommodate the potential spillages of chemicals, water, oil and grease, keeping the production area safe for employees. The final surface was also non-porous, which also meant that no bacteria could harbour in the flooring system. Together, these would ensure that Cranswick would never have any problems when it came to passing health and safety audits.
